PART 2: Sears, Their Lemon Appliances and Poor Customer Service
The technician came from Sears today. My roommate and I were shocked at a couple of things he said.
- All refrigerators (or most - he changed his story to add that some more expensive units have two) have only one cooling unit in the freezer, so when you close the refrigerator door, the pressure change causes the freezer door to open, but it closes right back.
QUESTION: Does anyone else out there have a freezer that opens every time you close your refrigerator door? If so, please leave a comment below, and include your refrigerator make and model. - Kenmore is now made by LG - you know, they Korean company that makes cell phones and electronics. Ignore the fact that they are called LG-USA. We all know there are no products actually manufactured in the U.S. anymore. They used to be made by Frigidaire, so maybe Frigidaire is now made by LG too. I don't have time to search to find out all that.
- Refrigerators do not have adjustable feet on the back anymore, so if you have an uneven floor, your fridge will never work properly unless you shim it or get your floor completely rebuilt and re-leveled. How much do you think THAT saves the company? $5 at the most, right?
- There is only one hinge between the freezer door and refrigerator door, so if your inner fridge door is overloaded, it will pull both doors out of whack. Again, how much do you think eliminating the separate hinges costs the company? Not much, that's for sure. The technician said that they are starting to make the door compartments smaller so people don't double-stack and put heavy things into them. Last technician told us we had too much food in the freezer and gave us instructions for manually defrosting it, which is what we thought we were forced to do BECAUSE....
- We were lied to about the 12-month repair cycle. We were specifically told that there had to be 5 service calls in the FIRST 12 months for it to be replaced, so since we didn't meet that criteria, we were trying to deal with it ourselves, because obviously, it could not be fixed. This technician said that is not true, that it is ANY 12 month period. If we had known that, we would have been calling every month, because that's about how long a so-called "repair" lasts.
- There is only a 2% dissatisfaction rate with Kenmore Appliances. Well, that is truly bullshit, from what I've read online. He also said that most people who have problems want a new unit so their job is to keep fixing it so they don't have to give them one. Well, we never asked for a new unit until it kept breaking over and over, but now, that is EXACTLY what we want -- except we'd like one that actually WORKS.
And for the record, my roommate and I have both decided we would not buy anything from Sears every again, something it seems a lot of consumer have decided, and probably for the same reasons. Their products and their customer service SUCKS.
